A regular meal in our household are these delicious, clean turkey burgers! We started eating them about a year and a half ago and since then, I’ve been experimenting with adding ingredients. These are 100% clean, low in fat, and SO GOOD! You can use lean turkey instead of extra lean, but I find that they don’t taste much different and, hey, why don’t you save yourself the extra calories? 🙂
- 1 lb. Extra Lean Ground Turkey
- 1/4 c. Fresh Cilantro (use fresh only)
- 1/4 c. Diced Red Onion
- 3 Garlic Cloves (optional — finely chopped)
- 1-2 tsp. Mrs. Dash Southwestern Seasoning
- 1 tbsp. coconut oil (or olive oil)
Prepare your ingredients and then combine everything in a large bowl. Mix well. Grab a handful of the meat with ingredients and flatten into patties.
I use a grill pan to cook my turkey burgers but if you don’t have this, you can use a regular skillet. Add you 1 tbsp. of oil to the pan–we usually use coconut oil. Once your pan is heated up, place patties on pan and cook on medium to medium-high for about 7-8 minutes, flipping every few minutes.
We usually serve our turkey burgers with sliced tomato and avocado on top, either bun-less, if I’m feeling paleo that day, or with whole-wheat buns or Ezekial bread and oven-roasted brussels sprouts with sea salt and pepper (a recipe for another day)! My husband likes to add BBQ sauce but I think they have enough flavor to not have to add anything.
